Less is more for start ups

After short conversation with some of my subscribers I decided to switch my blog language to English. I didn’t know that there are people who just try to translate my posts into English. Thank you folks ! If my polish brothers and sisters :) are not happy with that change please let me know.

Today I prepared the quick and short post concerning start up need to focus on the core things.

Watching some Polish start ups I realized that people (mostly CEOs) are trying to play “as much as we can” strategy. Many functionalities – so users have plenty of options. I personally believe this is wrong for many reasons. One of the most important are (Fred Willson gave me that idea 3 years ago):

People don’t have time for another web app. So the answer is to build something small and quick, something what can offer one thing, one main functionality and be the best at it.

Start up team needs to focus. It is good, as I believe, for start ups when everybody is the CEO. I am not thinking about 35 people Board of Management :) . What I am trying to say is – let people be the farmers of their own field. Coach them, help them, motivate them (not only financially). That system needs clear goals. When goals are clear time management is simple. Everything what is not goal connected is not valuable. When employees have their own fields, they focus on it.

“Focus on your time” – I keep repeating to myself. My job is to be CEO so I have my own farm-field too :) I use Eternity iPhone app to track my time. It definitely helps me to focus on what is important. After whole week I am able to check how much time I spent on specific tasks. Suddenly I realized that 60% of my work time I spent on coffee :) Joke :)

Take care and have a terrific day
